The parish of St Mary’s, Dukinfield, is in the Catholic Diocese of Shrewsbury. Dukinfield is a small town in the Metropolitan Borough of Tameside in Greater Manchester, just over 6 miles east of the city of Manchester. Being at the centre of Tameside, it is surrounded by the towns of Droylesden, Ashton, Mossley, Stalybridge, Longdendale, Hyde, Denton and Audenshaw. The origin of the name Dukinfield is thought to be from the old English “Duce feld” meaning “open land of the ducks”.
